When Jesus declared Himself to be I Am, He was stating that He was Jehovah, the Lord and God of the Old Testament, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. When Moses asked whom shall I say sent me? He was told to say that I Am sent him. Thus, when Jesus said He was I Am, He was stating that He was that same God who had talked to Moses. To the Pharisees, that was blasphemy because no man can call himself God. Yet Christ did because that was indeed who He was. Abram became Abraham when God blessed him and made His covenant with him.
